As the lines between human and biological entities blur, and
sophisticated mind communication networks are formed, what could be
the potential impacts on society? 
Imagine a world some point during the middle of the 21st century
where virtual communities and direct mind to mind communication is
possible at ever increasing speeds, Where human-machine entities
can share information they choose at near the speed of light from
any positions on the globe, imagine being able to understand almost
as if it were your own cognitive processes how to read and write
Japanese as someone from japan, or understand medicine or physics
like a PhD graduate.
Difficult to imagine? Perhaps sounding a bit like the Borg from
star-trek? well resistance is futile because the explosive nature
of Nanotechnology, biotechnology, artificial intelligence and most
importantly information transfer all point towards a future much
more vast and incomprehensible than this.
Since the dawn of single celled organisms life has grown to
complex networks of single cells to organisms to human cognition
itself and each explosion is not only an explosion in the
capability to manipulate and adapt to the environment, its also an
explosion in consciousness itself. And best of all it functions on
very simple evolutionary principles that hold to this day (albeit
in a slightly more complex batch of interactions).
To imagine what i mean think of a petri dish called earth and
place inside that petri dish one single celled organism, provide it
with a suitable environment and watch it divide exponentially till
copies of itself cover the whole petri dish. Well then what?

After a time environmental factors will kick in and mutation
will occur, for simplicity lets stick to three types of single cell
organisms all originating from the same source but remarkably
different in appearance and function. And so these cells war it out
over space, resources, food, and keep reproducing and mutating
until eventually they begin to co-operate and share chemical
information and pow! we have a multi-cellular organism.
And just as the single cells did the organism will do four
things:
Reproduce. Mutate. Fight. Unify.
And so on and so forth (forgive me for over simplification but
I’m trying to address the basic “code of life” here) and this
continues until humans appear.
Now humans albeit are sophisticated but if you observe the
history of the human race we have always replicated, formed our
boundaries of culture and society and fought our wars but gradually
we have been becoming more tolerant of one another and finally in
the 21st century we will unify into the next super-conscious entity
an entity as smart as every human being on the planet by far and
more loving and gentle and emotional (since emotion is higher
cognition) than anything else we have previously encountered.
The collective mind body of the entire human species, connected
through a web of seamlessly integrated brain-machine and augmented
by our own will into higher states of consciousness reserved only
to perhaps only mystics or drug users.
And life has been unifying into higher complex states of
consciousness all along, and each one is exponentially vaster than
the previous one. For instance examine the cambrian explosion,the
development of language, the dawn of the human up until the
internet and artificial intelligence.
And this consciousness to consciousness transfer is also
increasing vastly from “simple” chemical messages to grunts to
language to books and email and blogs themselves.
So lets expand our consciousness further, lets spiral out a
little (one for the tool fans) what happens when we can process
simultaneously our own experience of reality, and another human
beings, what if we can literally “meld” well i see that happening
day in and day out with social interactions, i consider the
internet itself to be a “super-neuronal network” almost like a
prosthetic extension of our consciousness into space and time.
Fans of the parallel universes theory will enjoy my next
statement: Now you have that all down imagine that another human
being IS a parallel space-time dimension, because is it not true
that the experience a reality completely seperate from our own
unique perspective? even their interpretation of colors and sounds
and emotions as well as their more logical thoughts.
I forsee in the next century a grand unification theory.. where
human beings ascend into a collective mind body of what might be
considered absurd or godlike right now. Its as though consciousness
itself has divided much like the single cell into separate forms of
itself across space time, and now it is re-unifying as we learn to
communicate better.
Magical huh, not to mention becoming the architect(s) of
alternate realities where perhaps we could design new adventures
for ourselves.. The possibilities are limitless.
