Is "Exponential" Technology Diffusion in a Lull?

"There are minor but growing elements of evidence that the rate of technological change has moderated in this decade. Whether this is a temporary trough that merely precedes a return to the trendline, or whether the trendline itself was greatly overestimated, will not be decisively known for some years." Personally, I think convergence and evolution of the web may be masking obvious new technologies. Web 2.0 / Social Networking is new tech, but is lumped in with The Web on Kurzweil's chart. Also, look out for the powerful virtual worlds ICT to make some headway in the coming years thanks to plentiful new apps, faster processors and connections and a potential ally Spore. Still, this is a great article.
